This blog interviews , a wonderful wandmaker and a Contributor in the group.
1. Could you tell us a little about yourself?
"My name is Cherie, I'm 27 and i live in Australia with my husband and 2 cats."
2. How did you start making wands? What inspired you to start, if anything, and what inspires you now?
"Basically I'm just completely Harry Potter obsessed. It started with looking around my backyard at all the sticks wondering what to do with them all and wanting to make my own wand then it just escalated from there. I kept going because i really enjoy making them and carving them is therapeutic."
3. How long have you been making wands?
"Around about 10ish months, my work isn't perfect, but I'm getting better and working out my own technique for it all."
4. What is your preferred medium? If wood, is there a particular species that you like to work with?
"Honestly i just use what i can find, if its in my yard or if i notice someones chopped down their trees I'll go and take a bunch of wood. I did find one particular wood that was really nice, unfortunately I'm still trying to figure out what it is!"
5. Tools of the trade! What are your preferred tools?
"I use a mixture of tools, knifes, sand paper, metal files, chisels, little wood carving tools a plane and a Dremel. Ive got to say the Dremel makes my life a lot easier but i prefer to use my files and carving tools mostly."
6. And lastly, what is your favorite wand out of all those you have made?
"Probably the one i made in memory of my son, though I do love a few of them!"

x-xSpitFirex-x takes commissions!
"I've just recently made myself a wand label Bewitching Branches and made boxes for them so I made a FB page here - www.facebook.com/BewitchingBra… I can take commissions, but right now I'm just doing so within my country [Australia]."

Everything Ok Around here?
Ok I hate to be a bother, but I have tried twice to submit a new design to the SoW and both have expired during my wait. Now I did try to contact our founder but I've not heard from them since my previous submission of the Opus incomplete form.
I fully understand that they are high profile Wand Makers in their own right having a dedicated website and not a measly Etsy, I respect them deeply and I hope they are safe and well but if the main group head is unable to be everywhere at once the best solution is to allow some trusted members to be able to vote on if new wands are added or not, a bass line....errm baseline would be that it take 4 vo
Discussion: Wand dimensions - what do you prefer?
Hello wandmakers, I'd like to start a discussion topic on wand dimensions. There are a lot of us and we each have our own style of crafting, but one aspect of everyone's uniqueness that is difficult to see in photos is wand dimensions. A short, thin wand can look the same as a longer wand with a larger diameter in pictures. But in real life, they are very different! To kickstart the discussion, I have a few questions:
1. How long are your wands on average? You can give a range.
2. What diameter do you like to work with?
3. For a finished wand, usually how thick is the thickest point?
4. Do you personally prefer a longer, thinner style, or a
Designing a wand - do they own it, or Represent it
I'm curious to see where people go with this, as it seems to set here apart from canon in a way.
Ok, so when designing a wand, is it going to be something that they would readily carry or something that represents them Critically. And this seems like there is a lot of overlap, but I don't know how to explain it any other way.
Like, I doubt you would design Harrys wand like it is in canon, but they seem to be more about practicality than design.
This arises because I'm currently designing newt scamanders wand. And was trying to decide how much animal I work into the wand itself. The character is less likely to carry around something that is a
Help Wanted: Wand Design
I'm currently saving up to have my own wand made. Trouble is...I have no idea how I want it to look. I'm hoping the good people of this group can help, since I plan to possibly try to get a wand commissioned from this group.
My ideal wand I would like to pay homage either to the abraxan and unicorn dual core OR the rowan tree berries. I like very straight wands, not fat but not very thin either, and not short. My preferred wood is rowan but I do like the idea of a wand that is dark-strained with silver paint too, so I'm open to suggestions as to what wood, stain, and other decorations the designer thinks would be best. I hope to see what sor
